£12,000 for 2025 community activities

The story of the Lake Victoria Basin is one of enormous potential and hope. This ecosystem retains much of the environmental richness required to support its dependants for decades to come. Help us raise awareness of the beauty, possibilities and potential that Africa’s largest, and the world's second largest, lake holds.

The Train My Generation Team continues in 2025 to support health, vocational training and environmental restoration on Mfangano Island, Lake Victoria in Kenya.

This beautiful island, one of over 900 on the lake is a focal point for community engagement, learning and impact, and from which we reach out to other communities who's futures depend on a rich and resilient lake ecosystem.

This is a part of our 30 year commitment to see sustained improvements of habitats and services to ensure the health and happiness of the island community and all those around the lake.

Lake Victoria serves 40m people on its shores and another 350m along the banks of the Nile, so its resilience and long term sustainability are crucial to the East African community and to its European neighbours.

Funds raised are not given as gifts or handouts, but ensure longer term independence, and help spread the voices of the community so we can encourage change at scale around the entire lake.

These funds will be used for activities throughout 2025, focusing on the following areas:

Veronica will lead delivery of menstrual and sexual health training sessions to the boys and girls at schools across the islands. 6-8 sessions in 2025.

Felix will lead on tree planting and sapling nursery events at schools are churches (target 6 in 2025)

TMG sponsorship of local fishing community gathering centres (BMUs, or Beach Management Units) to share our work with the broader community.

A filming expedition in July to gather footage of the people, places and stories around the island to help us attract more change makers in Kenya and abroad.

Cliff leads as our Treasurer and on community engagement.

Vincent is our project leader and founder.

James leads on communications and partnerships

So many others help is so many ways.

Thank you for supporting the team and we look forward to showing the results of our work as news comes in.
